The Indonesia National Energy Council (DEN) revealed Gelasa Island in Bangka Belitung islands area, is the location that is currently the main focus for building the first Nuclear Power Plant (PLTN) in Indonesia.
A private power generation company from the United States (USA), namely ThorCon Power Indonesia, is currently planning to build the first nuclear power plant in Indonesia. The nuclear power plant project is targeted to start operating in 2030.
Bob Effendy the CEO of Thorcon Power Indonesia, said that in November 2024 the first steel cutting will begin at the South Korean Shipyard. "Commercial operation target in 2030. First steel cutting (first steel cutter) at shipyard in South Korea, November 2024. Then bring nuclear power plant unit to location in 2027. And finally operating permit targeted in 2029," said Bob Effendy
